New eco-buses start on the lines of public transport in Sofia
At the moment, 20 of the new gas buses with air conditioning and ventilation have already been delivered. The remaining 40 pieces will be delivered by the end of the week. The buses will start on the routes by August 2 at the latest. They will replace the 20-30-year-old diesel buses, which until now served the lines and are a very serious polluter of the air in Sofia, according to VMRO.
Our capital is among the most polluted cities in Europe because of the outdated fleet of private cars, but also because of the old public transport buses. For this reason, on June 28 of last year, the Metropolitan Municipal Council approved a report by the municipal councilor from VMRO, Carlos Contrera, agreeing to enter into a contract for public transport of passengers with the transport operator "MTK GROUP".
According to the report, the carrier undertakes to take over transportation on bus lines in the northern regions of Sofia with new "Euro 6" standard gas buses. According to the proposal of the group of advisers "Patriots for Sofia" - VMRO and ATAKA, the carrier must also build a new gas compressor station at its own expense in order to guarantee the refueling of the buses. The contract was concluded on December 2, 2016.
Delivery of the new eco buses is at the carrier's expense. They will run on the lines for a period of 8 years. The buses are not related to the program of the Metropolitan Municipality for the renewal of urban transport, but are a supplement to it.
The official presentation of the eco buses on July 25 will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Nikolay Kanchev, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Stefan Balabanov, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy dr. , reported by VMRO.
