The new eco-buses will improve the air quality in Sofia

MTK GROUP undertakes to provide 60 new buses according to the Euro 6 standard at its own expense and to take over transportation on bus lines in the northern areas of Sofia

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Nikolay Kanchev participated in the official presentation of the new ecological buses of the Municipality of Sofia together with the Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, the Minister of Transport Ivaylo Moskovski and the municipal councilor from VMRO Carlos Contrera.

"I welcome the renovation of Sofia's bus fleet as a measure to improve air quality. "The replacement of old diesel vehicles in mass urban transport with new ones powered by methane is a serious contribution to one of the priorities in the field of the environment," said Deputy Minister Kanchev.

The press center of the Ministry of the Environment announced that the report on the new buses was approved by the Metropolitan Municipal Council at the suggestion of Contrera, a municipal councilor from VMRO.

It gives consent to conclude a contract for the carriage of passengers with the transport operator MTK GROUP. The company undertakes to provide 60 new buses according to the Euro 6 standard at its own expense and to take over the transport on bus routes in the northern areas of Sofia. At the suggestion of the group of advisers "Patriots for Sofia", the carrier is building a new gas-compressor filling station at its own expense. The new 60 gas buses will replace the previous 20-30-year-old diesel vehicles that serviced the lines and were among the city's air polluters.

"We appreciate the contribution of the Metropolitan Municipality in achieving the national goal - cleaner air and healthy living conditions. This is done by mobilizing the efforts of all interested parties and the active cooperation of each of us - both on the part of the institutions and their partners in the form of transport companies. And to the citizens, whom we must encourage to get into their cars less by offering them clean, comfortable and ecological public transport", stressed Deputy Minister Kanchev.

He called on municipalities for more similar initiatives in big cities to reduce air pollution.
